A Study on Ego-Identity Status of Junior Nursing College Students

Abstract

|
This study was performed to produce baseline data for helping campus life and using for academic instructions of junior nursing college students.
To achieve this goal, ego-identity status of students and factors influencing on ego-identity status were investigated.
Subjects were 370 female students of K junior nursing college. Data were collected from november 11 to 25, 1991 and questionnaires were used.
To assess ego-identity, the present study used five ego-identity statuses (achievement, moratorium, foreclosure, diffusion and alienation) and five ego-identity areas (occupation, value, sex role, sexual attitude and religion).
Analysis of data was done by frequency, percentage, mean, S.D and X2-test. The results were as follows;
1. Ego-identity statuses of students were mainly moratorium, diffusion and alienation in all areas.
2. There were significant differences in all areas of ego-identity status related to academic grades (P < 0.01).
3. There was significant difference only in sexual attitude area of ego-identity status related to religion (P < 0.001).
4. There were no significant differences in all areas of ego-identity status related to whether both parents alive.
5. There were no significant differences in all areas of ego-identity status related to degree of satisfaction for nursing.
